9. Calculating Survey Weights
There are other approaches to weighting that go beyond these basic steps. For example, auxillary information that is correlated with response variables can be incorporated via regression weighting, with the goal of increasing the precision of estimates.
Regardless of the process, survey weighting seeks to compensate for several factors, including:
- Sampling rates;
- Response rates;
- Population sizes and other control characteristics known from other sources; and
- Precision of estimates.
